DEBATING FOR DEMOCRACY (D4D) | LETTER TO AN ELECTED OFFICIAL COMPETITION

Debating for Democracy (D4D) | Letter to an Elected Official Competition 

We are now taking submissions for the Project Pericles Debating for Democracy (D4D) | Letter to an Elected Official Competition!

 HOW:

  • Write a letter to an elected official about an issue you care about
  • Provide a project proposal outlining how you would use the $500 award for advocacy and educational activities moving your idea forward

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Students must be full-time undergraduates at a Periclean campus
  • Be a first, second, or third year student as defined by their college or university during Spring 2024
  • Be returning to campus for the 2024-2025 academic year to ensure that winning teams can work on their issues
  • Write and mail a letter to an elected official
  • Provide a project proposal

SUBMISSIONS DUE: FRIDAY, MARCH 1ST (end of day)

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Promise Scholars Field Trip to Pitzer | Volunteer Sign-up: https://forms.gle/isBW8ipAALpje2dJ9 | February 23rd from 9am-12pm
Every year the CEC welcomes 300+ local 8th graders to Pitzer’s campus for a day of college access. We are looking for volunteers for the following activities:

  • Tour Guides | 9am-10am | Students will lead a group of 12-15 students around campus with a teacher and chaperone.
  • Student Panelists | 10am-11am | Students will be part of a college access panel. If you are a first gen student or an Ontario Montclair School District alumni, please sign up!
  • Activity Leader | 11am-12pm | Students will lead a fun activity with a group of 12-15 students. We’ve got activities like kick ball, basketball, crafts and more!

We are excited to announce our 3rd Annual Storyteller’s Festival happening this March! We are looking for volunteers to help with the event. If you are interested, please complete the form linked above.

Think Together | Tutors & Program Leaders
Think Together programming runs Monday – Friday from bell dismissal (2:30pm/3pm) until 6pm. Volunteers can come before the program begins to help with administration. Volunteers will support academic achievement, where they can provide students with tutoring and physical activity by facilitating different sports games and enrichment through clubs and events for the students. Flexible scheduling.

  • Phone Banking | Tuesday – Friday, 6-8pm | Calling voters through PDI and following a script to encourage them to vote in the March 5th primary election.
  • Canvassing | Saturday – Sunday, 9:30am-12:30pm | Door-to-door canvassing and recording voter ID via PDI following a script to encourage them to vote in the March 5th primary election.

LA County Public Health | Volunteer
Volunteering with the Department of Public Health in a variety of areas. All those interested must apply and go through an interview process.
