Office of the President

President Strom C. Thacker

Dr. Strom C. Thacker comes to Pitzer from Union College in Schenectady, New York, where he served as Dean of the Faculty and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

He brings to Pitzer a depth of experience—in teaching, scholarship, administration, and leadership—that will serve the College very well in the years to come.

Prior to his tenure at Union College, Thacker was a professor of international relations and political science at Boston University and also served as associate dean of the faculty for social sciences within BU’s College of Arts and Sciences. He previously served as the director of the university’s Latin American Studies Program and is a recipient of BU’s College of Arts and Sciences Award for Teaching Excellence.

Strom personifies the Pitzer ethos. Growing up in Northern California, he was able to attend Pomona College thanks to its generous financial aid, including a Pell Grant. Strom has built on this experience throughout his career, becoming a consistent champion of college equity and access, as well as a leader who speaks very personally to the transformative power of the liberal arts education.
