Saturday, January 22, 2022: High-Wind Event in Claremont
5:20 p.m. Update: Community Message from Campus Safety
As our facilities staff and contractors work to remove the debris from fallen trees and power lines from the high winds, we ask our community to stay inside after dark this evening. Given the potential presence of down wires, holes from uprooted trees and damaged sidewalks, everyone needs to exercise extreme caution. Staying indoors and avoiding these hazards is strongly encouraged.
If you must go outdoors, please keep in mind the following:
- Some street lights are out. Please approach intersections with care and yield for vehicles.
- Some streets throughout the Village are closed and access is prohibited.
- Never touch a downed power line. Report it immediately by calling Campus Safety at 909-607-2000 or 9-1-1.
- Stay off downed trees. Crews are reporting individuals climbing downed trees to take photos. This is extremely dangerous as trees may be unstable or may hide downed electrical lines.
Thank you for doing your part to keep the TCC community safe.—Campus Safety
3:20 p.m. Update: Water on campus has been restored. The internet is down at the Claremont Collegiate Apartments (CCA).
1 p.m. Update: Water on campus is scheduled to be shut off at 1:05 p.m. to conduct repairs. As of this time, we do not know how long water will be shut off. We will update this page as soon as we have additional information.
12:10 p.m. Update: A fallen tree damaged a water line, which is flooding a road on campus and needs to be immediately repaired. Water will be shut off for repairs, so students have been advised to fill their water bottles and use the bathroom. Porta potties are in place and more bottled water is being delivered. At this time, power has been restored.
There is a high-wind warning until 3 p.m. in Claremont today. We have advised students to stay inside.
We will continue to update this emergency site throughout the day.
