Claremont, Calif. (April 23, 2012) — Pitzer College student Nathan Pensler ’13 has been accepted to the 2012 Colorado Summer Seminar in Philosophy held in Boulder, Colorado. The highly selective program is limited to 15-20 philosophy students from schools across the country and abroad. Running from July 23-August 10, the seminar is sponsored by the Department of Philosophy at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
Pensler knew little about philosophy before taking “The Examined Life,” a freshman seminar with Pitzer College Professor of Philosophy Brian Keeley, and “The History of Ethics” with Assistant Professor of Philosophy Ahmed Alwishah. After those classes, he was hooked on a field that literally means “love of wisdom.”
Now a philosophy major, Pensler is especially interested in epistemology and the philosophy of science, two areas that will be included in this year’s seminar topic, “The Limits of Knowledge.” Pensler said he is “thrilled about meeting other undergraduates from all around the country who are excited and serious about philosophy.”
The 2012 Colorado Summer Seminar in Philosophy is designed to introduce outstanding undergraduates to the atmosphere and rigor of a graduate-level seminar. Students are required to participate in classes and evening discussion sessions, write papers and do readings that are “dense and difficult.”
