Fall 2023 Workshops

Writing Center workshops are interactive and designed to teach effective approaches to the writing process. They’re open to all members of the Pitzer community interested in developing further as writers, teachers, or tutors of writing.

To schedule a one-on-one consultation with a Writing Center Fellow, please use our online appointment system.

Co-Working Time with Writing Fellows Series

When: December 3rd from 7-9pm

Where: The Grove House

Join writing fellows at the Grove House for supported co-working time on homework assignments, thesis work, and anything else you’re working on!

Graduate School Prep Series

When: October 24th, November 6th, November 13th

Where: The Writing Center

Join the Writing Center and Career Services Office Graduate School Prep Series and prepare yourself for graduate school! Snacks will be provided at the second and third events, including some crust pastries and pizza! Scan the QR code for more information on times and locations!

Senior Thesis Series: Write-in

When: October 27th from 10am-12pm

Where: The Writing Center

For seniors: Join other seniors in writing your thesis and seek support from writing fellows on generating ideas, establishing a structure, and making a thesis timeline plan!

International Afternoon Tea

When: October 19 from 4-5pm, November 2 from 4-5pm, November 16 from 4-5pm, November 30 from 4-5pm

Where: Writing Center Courtyard

For International Students: Join the International Program and the Writing Center to talk through different forms of writing and get feedback on assignments!

CASA & Writing Center Open House

When: October 10th – 10am-12pm

Where: The Writing Center Courtyard

Join the Writing Center and CASA to learn about accessible services, paint mugs, and drink boba!

Writing for Wellness Event

When: October 10th – 12pm-1:00pm

Where: The Writing Center Courtyard

Join the Writing Center and PASS (Pitzer Academic Support Services) to learn how to embed wellness and mindfulness practices into your writing!

Creative Writing and Community Workshop Series

When: Oct 6th from 10-11am

Where: The Grove House

Join the Writing Center to workshop creative writing stories, answer creative prompts, and hone your creative writing skills! Some Crust Pastries are provided!

Cite Right Workshop

When: Friday October 6th from 11am-12pm

Where: Broad Hall 214

Join the 5c library’s teaching and outreach librarian, Alex Odicino, for a workshop on citation styles, their uses, and the main differences between common citations styles you will use in college writing!

Zotero Research Workshop

When: Friday September 29th from 11am-12pm

Where: Broad Hall 214

Join the collaboration event between the Writing Center and the library on using Zotero for research! Learn how to format online literature reviews and annotated bibliographies, and elevate your citation skills!

Watson Fellowship Writing Workshop

When: Sunday, August 27th 11:30am-5pm (lunch provided)

Where: Broad Hall, 214

First and second semester seniors are eligible to apply for the T.J. Watson Fellowship, awarded for a post-graduate year of purposeful, independent exploration. If you are interested in applying for a Watson Fellowship in Fall 2023, plan to attend the workshop run by Prof. Carina Johnson (Pitzer’s Watson advisor) and Stephanie Liu-Rojas (Writing Center Director).

The workshop focuses on techniques for developing a strong application, including sessions on writing the fellowship proposal and the personal statement.

Writing Center and CAPAS Open House

When: Wednesday, September 6th from 3-5pm

Where: Mead Courtyard (outside of the Writing Center, CAPAS, and Communications)
