The Princeton Review Ranks Pitzer Among Nation’s Best Colleges
The Princeton Review has ranked Pitzer College among the nation’s top higher education institutions in its Best 388 Colleges: 2023 Edition. Based on student survey responses, Princeton Review highlighted Pitzer in several categories, including #2 for “Most Politically Active Students,” #3 for “Green Matters: Everyone Cares About Conservation,” and #5 for “Best Campus Food.”
Immigration Law Clinic in a Liberal Arts Classroom
Professor Sumangala Bhattacharya leads two lives: one as a professor of British literature at Pitzer and another as an immigration attorney and owner of the solo law firm ImmPowered Law Office. In spring 2022, Bhattacharya’s lives came together for the first time when she offered a new praxis course, Immigration Advocacy Clinic: Humanitarian Immigration, to invite undergraduate students to a rare opportunity to help with legal cases. “This is stuff that you would do as law school students."
From Incarceration to the California State Assembly: Pitzer Alumnus Reggie Bullock ’22
Reggie Bullock ’22, who earned his degree through Pitzer’s Inside-Out Pathway-to-BA program, has been accepted to the Jesse Unruh California Assembly Fellowship. Assembly fellows serve as full-time legislative staff to gain hands-on experience in public policy, politics, and the California state legislature. “When I sit back and reflect from my time beginning in the criminal justice system at 14 years old to now, just getting out after a 17-year sentence, it’s definitely surreal."
Pitzer Alumna Abigail Biddle ’20: Advocate in the Gym, the Law, and Beyond
“Your arms were the talk of graduation.” This is what Pitzer alumna Abigail Biddle ’20 heard from a fellow graduate after their long-awaited Class of 2020 commencement ceremony. Indeed, Biddle’s biceps belong in a superhero movie. A competitive bodybuilder and soon-to-be Duke Law School student, Biddle says the first time she took the stage in a body-building competition, she was hooked. "I loved it because for most of my life, even though I was an athlete, as a woman I was told I should take up less space physically. When I was on stage, I was surrounded by women who were so buff and by people who were cheering for us.”
Student Spotlight: Carlos Gomez ’24 Mentors New Students
Pitzer College junior Carlos Gomez ’24 learned a hard lesson about burnout when he juggled a full-time job while he had to attend college remotely during the 2020–21 academic year due to the pandemic. Now that he understands the importance of self-care and asking for help, he looks for different ways to support incoming students. Almost nothing makes Gomez more excited than mentoring them. “Things may be very overwhelming in your first semester, so make sure that you’re doing daily check-ins with yourself and that you’re seeking help if you need it."

If the trees in your backyard are looking under the weather, Pitzer College alumnus Joey Sulpizio ’22 wants to be the man you call. A plant health care technician at the Davey Tree Expert Company, Sulpizio is training and studying to become an arborist.
“Mother Nature is so strong, but at the same time, we’re planting trees that don’t belong in certain areas because we like the look of it. The more trees there are, the better, especially in urban areas with the heat island effect. Protecting trees has a direct impact on the environment.”
