Claremont, Calif. (August 12, 2013) — Pitzer College Office of Communications received an APEX 2013 Award of Excellence in the Green Electronic Media category for its innovative augmented reality design for the Robert Redford Conservancy Launch Announcement postcard.
The Robert Redford Conservancy Launch Announcement is a double-sided publication that integrates cutting-edge multimedia techniques within a print design. When viewed through a free mobile device app, a growing Pitzer College tree appears on one side while a 3D rendering of a Redford Conservancy building concept is displayed on the other side. Both sides feature a voiceover by actor Ed Begley, Jr.
APEX Awards is an international competition that recognizes excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the ability to achieve overall communications. In the 25th Annual APEX Awards, awards were given in 138 individual categories, within 12 main categories including: newsletters; magazines and journals; magapapers and newspapers; annual reports; brochures, manuals and reports; electronic media; social media; websites; campaigns, programs and plans; writing; design and illustration; and one-of-a-kind publications.
