Jeffery Robert Frum ’12
Claremont, Calif. (March 1, 2013)—Pitzer College announces a $400,000 gift from Mary Frances Jett to establish a scholarship in honor of her nephew Jeffery Robert Frum ’12. The Jeffery Robert Frum ’12 Endowed Scholarship Fund will help deserving students fulfill their dreams of pursuing their college education at Pitzer.
Described by his family and friends as a young man with an infectious smile, huge heart and an appetite for adventure, Jeffery majored in economics and minored in environmental analysis at Pitzer. He passed away on July 26, 2012 in an accident while on a farm in New Zealand.
Jeffery’s mother Mardi Frum said her sister, Mary Frances Jett, and Jeffery were very close from the very start.
“She came up with the idea of establishing the endowed scholarship in Jeff’s name,” Frum said. “He had such a wonderful experience at Pitzer. We’re so happy that Jeff will be remembered and through his remembrance he can help other students.”
In addition to the scholarship, Jeffery’s memory lives on in many ways at Pitzer. He and his family were honored at the annual alumni baseball game in early February and his Sagehens teammates are wearing his initials on their baseball caps this season. Jeffery’s college friends have plans to paint a mural in his honor on the Pitzer campus.
Jeffery was natural athlete, whether he was on a baseball diamond or surfing the Pacific. He covered second base for the Sagehens Baseball team following a stellar athletic career in high school, where he played varsity soccer for three years and varsity baseball for four years, twice earning the Team Most Valuable Player award.
“Jeff was a true team player,” said Sagehens Baseball Coach Frank Pericolosi. “He always supported his teammates and did everything he could to make them better.”
Born and raised in Newport Beach, Jeffery was a junior lifeguard for six years and surfed, snowboarded, skateboarded and golfed whenever time and weather permitted. He is survived by his sisters, Lauren-Leigh and Jenna, and his parents, Jeff and Mardi.
The Jeffery Robert Frum ’12 Endowed Scholarship Fund will be awarded annually through The Office of Financial Aid.
