Pitzer College Senior Anna Oxborough-Yankus ’12 Named SCIAC Athlete of the Week

Claremont, Calif. (May 2, 2012) — Pitzer College student Anna Oxborough-Yankus ’12 was named the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Female Athlete of the Week after leading Pitzer-Pomona to the SCIAC Women’s Water Polo championship this weekend.

Oxborough-Yankus ’12 earned the honor after scoring 10 goals during the SCIAC Tournament, including five in the championship game, a 12-11 triple-overtime win over Redlands. Her five goals were the most by a Sagehen in a single game this season.

The SCIAC Championship enabled the Sagehens to finish the year undefeated in Division III, including 10-0 in SCIAC games. Pitzer-Pomona will take an 11-match winning streak into the NCAA Tournament at San Diego State next weekend, when they will face top-ranked Stanford in the first round on Friday, May 11 at 3:30 p.m. This will be the Women’s Water Polo team’s fourth NCAA appearance in the last six years.
