Claremont, Calif. (February 1, 2012) — Pitzer College’s Senior Associate Director of Financial Aid Yvonne Gutierrez-Sandoval ’03 has been selected by the US Department of Education (DOE) to participate its new Student Loan Negotiated Rulemaking committee. She is serving as a primary negotiator, representing private non-profit institutions.
The Student Loan Negotiated Rulemaking committee is developing regulatory language for federal loan programs. The committee is comprised of representatives from higher education institutions, the student loan industry and DOE officials, as well as consumers and students. They aim to address multiple issues related to student loans, including modifications to certain repayment plans and direct loan program regulations.
“Participating in hands-on regulation creation helps me counsel Pitzer students about the fine nuances of repaying their students loans and the benefits available to them in the various repayment programs,” said Gutierrez-Sandoval, who has already attended the first of three sessions in Washington DC.
Gutierrez-Sandoval ’03 majored in sociology at Pitzer College.
