Sagehen Round Up for the Week of November 21, 2011

Claremont, Calif. (November 28, 2011) — The Sagehen Men’s Basketball team had an impressive weekend by going 2-0 at the David Wells Classic. On Friday, the Sagehens had an easy time with Dominican University, picking up a 74-54 win at Voelkel Gymnasium, as Po Grant ’13 led the way with 15 points on five three-pointers. On Saturday, Pitzer-Pomona took on St. Olaf in a game played at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, which came right down to the wire before the Sagehens prevailed 79-76 to improve to 2-2 on the season. The Sagehens will try to keep the wins coming when they travel to Redlands this weekend for three games at the Lee Fulmer Tournament.

The Sagehen Women’s Basketball team dropped both of its games at the David Wells Classic, but had some strong individual performances as it had five players in double figures in a loss to Arizona Christian on Friday. Emi Hashizume ’14 had a team-high 20 points, while Erin Edmonds ’14 added 12 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals in a solid all-around effort. On the second day of the David Wells Classic, Edmonds had nine points and Ruthie Shapiro ’15 added seven points on 3-6 shooting from the floor in a loss to UC Santa Cruz on Saturday. Pomona-Pitzer returns to action Tuesday night at home (7:30 p.m.) against La Sierra.
