Claremont, Calif. (October 23, 2009) – Pitzer College student Jemima Barrios ’13 received a 2009 Bank of America Boston Neighborhood Excellence Initiative Award for student leadership.
In high school, Barrios and her peers launched a project to gather supplies, games, notes and other items for U.S. Marines serving in Iraq. She also served as the head of the Planning & Development Board at Chelsea City Hall in Massachusetts on Student Government Day.
As part of the award, Barrios spent the summer interning at the United Way of Massachusetts Bay & Merrimack Valley and attended a week-long Student Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. to learn how the government, nonprofit organizations and the private sector create positive change through partnerships.
