Claremont, Calif. (September 16, 2008)—Pitzer College President Laura Skandera Trombley joined with other leading thinkers in higher education to participate in the inaugural meeting of the The Chronicle of Higher Education/New York Times Higher Education Cabinet, held on September 15.
The Cabinet, made up of chancellors, presidents and trustees, convened to discuss the most pressing issues facing higher education. Topics included “Sustaining the Higher Education Financing Model,” “E-Learning and Education,” “Internationalization” and “Assessment and Accountability.” These conversations, facilitated by journalists from The Chronicle and The New York Times, will set the stage for subsequent Cabinet meetings, which will occur online.
Of the Cabinet, President Trombley said, “This is a rare and greatly valued opportunity to meet with higher education leaders to discuss some of the most pressing topics affecting us today.”
Cabinet members include leaders from Smith College, Spelman College, Syracuse University, Tufts University, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of California Los Angeles, the University of Maryland, the University of Notre Dame, the University of Southern California and Vassar College, among others.
