Alaina Neuburger ’24 is one of 10 recipients selected for the 2024 Judicial Fellowship under the Capital Fellows Program. A double major in economics and public policy, Neuburger brings diverse experiences in government and community initiatives to the fellowship.

The Capital Fellows Programs are nationally recognized public policy fellowships that offer experiences in policymaking and development in each branch of California’s state government. Judicial Fellows work in superior courts and Judicial Council offices across California in court administration. Neuburger’s placement is in the business management office of the Judicial Council in San Francisco.

“I’m most looking forward to building on my academic experience by learning about policy implementation and evaluation at the court level,” said Neuburger.

As a Judicial Fellow, Neuburger will work on research initiatives related to court programs, public policy, legislative analysis, language access, community outreach, and advancing the branch mission of creating access to justice. Neuburger also has the chance to receive mentorship from court executive officers and senior staff during the 10-month program.

From participating in the Claremont Colleges Debate Union to interning at the White House, Neuburger has exuded passion for policymaking and civic engagement at the local and national level.

Neuburger’s roles at Pitzer College included serving as a Justice Education Initiative intern, Jumpstart Corps member, and a program assistant for The People’s Pitzer (TPP). TPP is an initiative of Pitzer’s Community Engagement Center that focuses on civic engagement to advance legislative policy and social change. Neuburger assisted with numerous projects, including an on-campus voter engagement campaign.

After completing the Judicial Fellowship, Neuburger plans to combine her passion for logical argumentation and investigating the values-driven questions behind American public policy by pursuing a career in law and constitutional litigation.
