Women’s Water Polo Earns Fifth-Straight SCIAC Regular Season Championship

The Pomona-Pitzer women’s water polo team defeated SCIAC rival CMS 12–5 to earn the SCIAC Regular Season Championship on April 20 at Haldeman Pool on Pomona’s campus.

With the win, the Sagehens ended the regular season with a 21–10 overall record and 12–0 in SCIAC play. Pomona-Pitzer has dominated the SCIAC regular season once again and finished the year unbeaten at 12–0. The Sagehens haven’t lost a regular season SCIAC contest since March 25, 2017. Since then, the Sagehens have won 74-straight regular season SCIAC games and earned their fifth-straight SCIAC Regular Season Championship.
 
The Sagehens were led by Pitzer’s Lulu Gaither ’25, who had a game-high four goals in the win. Kaylee Stigar PO’25 also netted a hat-trick with three goals while Abigail Wiesenthal PO’24 had two and Madison Lewis PO’24, Brienz Lang PO’26, and Gabby Lewis PO’26 had one. Zosia Amberger PO’25 got the start and picked up the win as well as her 600th career save with seven saves on the day with one steal.
 
Pomona-Pitzer defeated the Athenas as Gaither led the way with a hat-trick inside the fourth quarter alone with three goals. The Lewis family joined Gaither on the scoresheet in the fourth as Pomona-Pitzer capped off their SCIAC Championship in style with a win over CMS at home to end the regular season.
 
Up Next: The Sagehens will enter the SCIAC Postseason Tournament as the No. 1 seed and will host the SCIAC Semifinal on Friday, April 26, at 7 p.m.
