On March 23, the Pomona-Pitzer women’s swim and dive team ended the 2024 NCAA Division III Swim and Dive Championship with two Relay Championships under their belt.

First, the Sagehens won the 400 Freestyle Relay National Championship to put an exclamation point on a seventh-place team finish, ending the four-day competition with 257.5 points. The Sagehens’ 400 Freestyle Relay National Championship title is the second national title that they clinched. The team also earned the 200 Freestyle Relay title on March 21, claiming the women’s first National Championship title since the 1983–84 season.

Pomona-Pitzer’s biggest moment came in the 400 Freestyle Relay with all eyes on lane four. The Sagehens were the favorite coming into the night with the top seed time of 3:22.80. The team of Sabrina Wang PO’26, Alexandra Turvey PO’24, Katie Gould PO’24, and Pitzer’s Valerie Mello ’25 put together a thrilling performance. They pulled off a nail-biting come-from-behind victory, touching the wall in 3:20.59 to end the 2024 NCAA Division III Championships with their second set of gold NCAA Championship trophies.

The Pomona-Pitzer women’s swim and dive team also recently earned the 2024 SCIAC Championship, winning their fifth title in the last eight years and their 24th title in program history.
