Grace Hurska ’18 was named West Region Women’s Player of the Week.

Claremont, Calif. (March 23, 2015)—Pitzer College first-year student Grace Hruska ’18 is named the West Region Women’s Player of the Week by division3tennis.com.

Hruska earned the honor after a busy stretch of schedule that featured six matches against nationally ranked teams, beginning with Emory on March 9 and carrying through Vassar on March 17. In that span, she earned five doubles and five singles wins, teaming with Lea Lynn Yen PO ’16 to defeat five nationally ranked doubles teams, including Emory the No. 1 team from defending its national championship.

On the year, Hruska is now 6-1 in singles (5-0 since moving up to No. 4), with the only loss, a tight battle, that included first and third set tiebreakers (6-7, 6-4, 10-5) to Emory. She is also now 8-1 in doubles, with the only loss 9-8 to No. 4 Amherst in a tiebreaker, as she and Yen have continued their strong play that helped them reach the finals of the ITA West Regionals in the fall.

Hruska and the Sagehens are back in action on Wednesday when they host Chicago for a 4 p.m. match at Pauley Tennis Complex.
