Claremont, Calif. (December 1, 2014) – This week in Sagehens Athletics saw only the two basketball teams in action over the Thanksgiving break, as they co-hosted the annual David Wells Classic on Friday and Saturday.

Women’s Basketball also was in action before the break, and the Sagehens put forth an outstanding effort in a 69-50 win over Linfield on Tuesday. Basha Brulee-Wills ’17 had a big day with 19 points and 15 rebounds, while Anya Quig ’18 had five assists and Amelia Hummel ’16 added four.

The Sagehens dropped both games at the David Wells Classic, but gave undefeated UC Santa Cruz a strong battle before falling 62-56. Brulee-Wills had another big night with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Hummel chipped in with seven assists. The final game on Saturday saw Brulee-Wills and Hummel tie for team-high honors with 12 points apiece, while Brulee-Wills added a team-high eight rebounds. The Sagehens host La Sierra on Thursday in their only game of the week.

The Men’s Basketball team had a torrid shooting day against Grove City on the first day of the David Wells Classic, rolling to a 91-61 win. Joe Eyen ’15 scored a career-high 16 points including four three-pointers to help the Sagehens to a big day from behind the arc (14-26 on three-pointers). The second game saw Lewis & Clark pull out a close 74-68 win, as Adrian Brandon ’15 and Hunter Lowry ’18 each had 11 points, with Lowry hitting all three of his three-point shots. The Sagehens host North Central (Ill.) on Thursday in their only contest of the week.

Swimming and Diving will be back in action after the holiday break for their first SCIAC dual of the year, traveling to Whittier on Saturday. Both Sagehens teams are ranked in the top 20 nationally, with the Women’s Swimming and Diving team in at No. 13 and the Men’s Swimming and Diving team debuting at No. 18 after giving Division II Cal Baptist a close battle in a 154-134 defeat.

Postseason awards came in for Men’s Water Polo, and Stephen Vint ’15 concluded his Sagehen career with a second-team All-SCIAC selection. Vint led the Sagehens with 41 goals on the year and earned All-SCIAC accolades for the second year in a row.
