Claremont, CA (November 24, 2014) – This week in Sagehens Athletics saw Men’s Basketball pick up a key regional home win over Trinity (Texas) on its opening week, while Men’s Water Polo officially put the wraps on the fall season at the SCIAC Tournament.

Men’s Basketball defeated Trinity 63-59 at Voelkel Gymnasium on Saturday in a game that was tight the whole way. Trailing by five early in the second half, Hunter Lowry ’18 connected on three three-pointers in an 11-2 run to put the Sagehens ahead by four. Lowry finished the game with a team-high 13 points, 11 of which came in the second half, while three Pitzer starters also combined for 17 points. Adrian Brandon ’15 had seven points, Joseph Eyen ’15 had six points and Spencer Schwartz ’18 had four. Lowry also had 11 points in the opening game on Tuesday (a 70-53 loss to Biola of NAIA).

Women’s Basketball dropped its only game this week on the road at La Sierra. Amelia Hummel ’16 led the Sagehens with 12 points, Anya Quig ’18 chipped in with 10 and Basha Brulee-Wills ’17 led the team with 10 rebounds. Women’s Basketball hosts Linfield on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and then co-hosts the David Wells Classic with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, along with the Men’s Basketball team (see below for schedule).

Men’s Water Polo fell to Occidental on Sunday 8-7 at the SCIAC Tournament in the final event of the fall season. Stephen Vint ’15 had two goals in his final collegiate game for the Sagehens, while Kyle Van der Linde ’15 also had a goal in his final contest.
