Deepti Goel is an applied microeconomist teaching economics at Pitzer. Before joining Pitzer she was teaching economics in India for about fifteen years. She is a research fellow at IZA-Institute of Labor Economics and at Global Labor Organization, GLO. Her research lies at the intersection of labor and development economics. It can be grouped into two broad themes: social identities and efficacy of public expenditure. One strand of her work contributes to understanding how identities such as gender, caste, and immigrant status influence economic and non-economic outcomes including notions of self-worth. The other measures impacts of government financed programs and uncovers mechanisms through which impacts are mediated in order to inform how public expenditure can be made more effective.
