Dear Pitzer Community,

As promised, I am writing to share more good news about Pitzer students and recent graduates who have earned fellowships, grants, and other awards during the academic year.

Today, I am happy to announce that Pitzer has six 2021-22 Fulbright recipients, four Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowships recipients, and one two-time Critical Language Scholarship recipient.

The following 2020 Pitzer Fulbright nominees have been awarded Fulbright US Student Program grants for 2021-22: Sophie Basseches ’20, Lily Borak ’21, Gabriela Carrera ’21, Priscilla Cobian ’16, Veronica Martinez ’21, and Jessica Miao ’21.

Our Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship awardees are Robert Green ’23, Quentin Jenkins Jr. ’23, Sergio

Quechol ’23, and Jocelyn Vega-Robledo ’23.

Andrea Parry ’23, a political studies and Middle East and North Africa studies double major, has been awarded her second Critical Language Scholarship to study Arabic.

In addition to recognizing our students and alumni, I would like to thank this year’s Fulbright advising team—Azamat Junisbai, Sandy Hamilton, and Nigel Boyle—and our Mellon Mays team: Shelva Paulse, who has served on the MMUF Steering Committee since the 2017-18 academic year, and Hanzhang Liu, this year’s MMUF faculty representative.

Please join me in congratulating Sophie, Lily, Gabriela, Priscilla, Veronica, Jessica, Robert, Quentin, Sergio, Jocelyn, and Andrea on their great accomplishments. I invite you to visit Pitzer’s webpage “Pitzer Students and Alumni Recognized for Academic Excellence and Innovation,” which will continue to be updated as the Office of Fellowships and Scholarships receives word of additional awards.

Provida Futuri,

Melvin L. Oliver
