The award is part of the recently announced selection of seven recipients of more than $5 million in funding as part of its Higher Education in Prisons program.
A strong combination makes this program special: the home stay, intensive Spanish, hands-on internships, and raising questions of social justice and environmental health. It’s all part of Pitzer’s mission and ICADS’ mission.
Award recipients have strived for social change, whether by leading writing workshops, combining athletics and mental wellness, launching community composting, or producing reentry resources for formerly incarcerated and homeless people.
“My research focuses on exploring how U.S. citizens are trained and disciplined to uphold white hetero-patriarchies through youth soccer culture,” said Pugh.
