Admission Policies

Learn important information about our test-free policy and the use of AI in your application.

Pitzer College has a test-free policy through the 2025-2026 application cycle. SAT or ACT scores are not accepted. English proficiency tests may be required for international applicants.

Pitzer is committed to getting to know you as a student, person, and future community member through your application. Learning about your genuine and honest self through your admission essays is essential in setting you up for success on our campus. Your final essay submission should be written by you and authentically reflect your own voice, experiences, and insights.

We recognize AI's role as a potential tool in this process for applicants who do not have access to mentors, support networks, or individualized college guidance. If you choose to use AI when writing your essays, consider it an editing tool - you might use resources to proofread grammar or solidify your thoughts in an essay, similar to how you might seek guidance from a current teacher or peer tutor. Wherever possible, we encourage you to seek feedback on your writing from people in your life who know and support you, since writing is a social practice predicated on human connection. Just as you wouldn’t submit content written by someone else for a class assignment, you should not use AI-generated text in your application.

As a mission-driven institution with strong roots in environmental sustainability, we have a responsibility to recognize and raise awareness of the limited resources used to power AI operations and the environmental impacts these data centers have on vulnerable communities and the natural world. Our institutional engagement with AI models will maintain constant focus on sustainability efforts to ensure we are embodying our core values and our dedication to leaving the world better than we found it.
