Sagehen Athletics Scores High in 2025 Academic Rankings

Along with excellence from the court to the field, Pomona-Pitzer’s student-athletes achieved high GPAs and other academic honors during 2024–25.

Pomona-Pitzer student-athletes are champions of the mind and body. As the Sagehens flexed their athletic prowess through many wins in NCAA Division III, they also excelled in the classroom in the 2024–25 academic year.

The women’s track-and-field team earned the second highest GPA in Division III, while the men’s track-and-field team received the third highest GPA in Division III. The women’s softball team earned the second highest GPA in DIII. The women’s golf team achieved the third highest GPA in DIII.

A total of 529 Pomona-Pitzer student-athletes earned Academic All-SCIAC honors for the 2024–25 season, as announced by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. To be eligible for this selection, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative 3.4 grade-point average and complete their sport season as a member of the active roster. Sagehens who earned this honor included players in baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and water polo.  

Individual Sagehens from baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, softball, swimming & diving, soccer, tennis, track and field, and water polo also received Academic All-District honors by the national intercollegiate organization College Sports Communicators.

Women’s Category

Women’s Track and Field Named USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

The Pomona-Pitzer women’s track-and-field team was named a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team. The Sagehens earned a cumulative team GPA of 3.88, the second highest in all Division III.

To earn All-Academic Athlete honors, student-athletes must first meet the minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale through the most recently completed grading period. They also must either have finished the season among the top 50 individuals as listed on the descending order lists on Track & Field Results & Statistics (TFRRS) or have competed as a member of one of the top 35 relay teams as listed on the descending order list on TFRRS.

Women’s Softball Earns Easton/NFCA Team GPA Award

The Pomona-Pitzer softball team earned the Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Team GPA Award. As a team, the Sagehens secured the second highest GPA in all of Division III softball with a 3.827 cumulative GPA. Additionally, 15 Sagehens captured Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2024–25 academic year.

The rankings and honors recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across the association’s membership categories. Team GPAs and individual scholar-athletes are submitted by member head coaches.

Women’s Golf Achieves WGCA All-Scholar Team GPA Award

The Pomona-Pitzer women’s golf team was named a Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-Scholar Team GPA Award recipient. As a team, the Sagehens earned a collective GPA of 3.855, the third highest among all NCAA Division III women’s golf programs. Six Sagehens were previously announced as All-American Scholars by the WGCA.

The WGCA All-Scholar Team GPA Award is presented to the women’s collegiate golf program in each division with the highest collective average team GPA.

Women’s Tennis Earns ITA All-Academic Honors

Pomona-Pitzer women’s tennis was named a Division III ITA All-Academic team, while nine Sagehens earned individual ITA Scholar-Athlete honors.  

To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must have a team GPA of 3.2 or above, have all student-athletes listed on the institutional eligibility form, and have all varsity letter winners factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.  

To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must have a GPA of at least 3.5 for the current academic year and be listed on the institutional eligibility form.

Women’s Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Award for 10th Straight Season

The Pomona-Pitzer women’s volleyball program has earned the 2025 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award. This year marks the 10th straight in which the Sagehens have earned the award. 

In total, 1,450 collegiate and high school volleyball teams maintained a year-long grade-point average of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale), to earn the 2025 AVCA Team Academic Award.

Women’s Lacrosse Named IWLCA Academic Honor Squad

The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) has named the Pomona-Pitzer women’s lacrosse team as an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad in Division III for the 2024–25 academic year. To qualify for this prestigious honor, the women’s lacrosse team must have posted a 3.2 or higher team GPA for the academic year.

Women’s Swimming & Diving Named CSCAA Spring Scholar All-America Team

The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) recognized the Pomona-Pitzer women’s swimming & diving team as a Spring Scholar All-America Team. To earn this honor, teams were required to achieve a GPA of 3.0 or higher during the spring 2025 semester. The Sagehens earned a collective GPA of 3.8.

Men’s Track and Field Honored as USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

The Pomona-Pitzer men’s track-and-field team was named a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team. The Sagehens’ cumulative team GPA of 3.71 marked the third highest in Division III.  

Men’s Swimming & Diving Earns CSCAA Spring Scholar All-America Team

The Pomona-Pitzer men’s swimming & diving team was honored as a Spring Scholar All-America Team by the CSCAA. To earn this honor, teams were required to achieve a GPA of 3.0 or higher during the spring 2025 semester. The Sagehens earned a collective GPA of 3.85.

Men’s Basketball Receives NABC Team Academic Excellence Award

Pomona-Pitzer men’s basketball earned the 2024–25 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Award. Seven Sagehens also earned NABC Honors Court recognition.

Honors Court recognition is eligible to juniors and seniors who finished the 2024–25 year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards recognize programs that completed the 2024–25 academic year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Men’s Baseball Earns ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award

Pomona-Pitzer baseball earned the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award. As a team, the Sagehens collected a cumulative GPA of 3.75 for the 2024–25 academic year. The award recognizes member teams from all levels of high school and collegiate baseball that achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher during the 2024–25 academic year.

Men’s Tennis Named an ITA All-Academic Team

Pomona-Pitzer men’s tennis was named a Division III ITA All-Academic team while 10 Sagehens earned individual ITA Scholar-Athlete honors.

Men’s Water Polo Receives ACWPC All-Academic Awards

The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) recognized 22 Sagehens with All-Academic Awards. The ACWPC bestows individual honors based on cumulative grade-point average in three tiers: Outstanding (4.0–3.71), Superior (3.7–3.41), and Excellent (3.4–3.2).

Men’s Golf Earns PLATFORM Golf Team Academic Award

Pomona-Pitzer men’s golf was named a 2024–25 PLATFORM Golf Team Academic Award recipient by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The Sagehens earned the President’s Special Recognition for boasting a collective team GPA of over 3.5.  
 
A GCAA record 292 schools across six divisions earned a PLATFORM Golf Team Academic Award. 129 schools received the President’s Special Recognition for having an average team GPA of 3.5 or above.  

Two Sagehens on the Pomona-Pitzer men’s golf team were also named Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars by the GCAA for the 2024–25 academic year.
