Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens Win Major Sports Championships This Spring
From the baseball team's first entrance into the NCAA World Series to the women's water polo team's national victories, the Sagehens enjoyed a triumphant spring.
It’s been a triumphant spring for the Sagehens in NCAA Division III! The Pomona-Pitzer women’s teams have dominated their seasons in swim and dive, golf, water polo, lacrosse, and tennis. Two Pitzer student-athletes received SCIAC Athlete of the Year honors in women’s water polo and lacrosse.
The Claremont Colleges women’s rugby team also scored a major national victory this year. Finally, the men’s baseball team won the SCIAC Championship and advanced to the NCAA World Series for the first time in program history.

Women’s Swim and Dive Wins SCIAC and NCAA Relay National Championships
The Pomona-Pitzer women’s swim and dive team swam their way to the 2024 SCIAC Championship on February 25, winning their fifth title in the last eight years and their 24th title in program history.
On March 23, the team ended the 2024 NCAA Division III Swim and Dive Championship with two relay championships. The Sagehens first won the 200 Freestyle Relay title and then the 400 Freestyle Relay title. These were the women’s first national championship titles since the 1983–84 season.
Women’s Golf Claims SCIAC I Tournament
The Pomona-Pitzer women’s golf team finished as champions of the SCIAC I Tournament on February 26. Pomona-Pitzer owned the course against a stacked SCIAC I competition at Los Lagos with the Sagehens finishing with the highest number of pars as a team with 123.
Women’s Water Polo Repeats SCIAC and Division III National Championships
The Pomona-Pitzer women’s water polo team defeated SCIAC rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) 12–5 to earn the SCIAC Regular Season Championship on April 20. The Sagehens later completed their SCIAC Tournament Championship three-peat with an 11–10 win over No. 2 CMS on April 28. The team then defeated CMS again in a 15–10 win on May 5 to capture their third consecutive USA Water Polo Division III National Championship.
This spring, Namlhun Jachung ’24 was named SCIAC Offensive Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year for her feats in water polo. The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches also named Jachung as Player of the Year.
Claremont Colleges Women’s Rugby Achieves National Championship
The Claremont Colleges Foxes women’s rugby team won the Division I Collegiate Rugby Championship 7s on April 28. Seeded 10th out of 16 teams, the Foxes defeated Florida State, number one seed Northern Iowa, Ohio State, and Oregon to win the title.
Women’s Lacrosse Earns SCIAC Championships
The Pomona-Pitzer lacrosse team earned a 24–2 victory over California Lutheran to claim the SCIAC Regular Season Championship on April 27. The Sagehens soon followed with an 18–8 victory over CMS to win their third consecutive SCIAC Tournament Championship title on May 4.
This spring, Carly Sullivan ’24 earned SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Year honors after leading the conference’s best defense in lacrosse.
Women’s Tennis Wins SCIAC Tournament Championship
The Pomona-Pitzer women’s tennis team upset the No. 1 ranked CMS Athenas 5–3 to claim the SCIAC Tournament Championship on May 4. The Sagehens claimed the championship for the first time since 2011 with their fifth SCIAC Tournament Championship in program history.
Men’s Baseball Claims First SCIAC Tournament Championship and Advances to College World Series
The Pomona-Pitzer baseball team earned the first SCIAC Tournament Championship in program history with their 11–6 win over CMS on May 11. The Sagehens won the SCIAC Postseason Tournament as the No. 2 seed with three straight wins to improve to 32–11 overall and earned the automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.
Then the team punched its first-ever ticket to the NCAA World Series with their 8–7 win over East Texas Baptist on May 25.
