Pomona-Pitzer Baseball Claims First SCIAC Tournament Championship

The Pomona-Pitzer baseball team earned the first SCIAC Tournament Championship in program history with their 11–6 win over CMS on May 11 at the University of La Verne’s Ben Hines Field.
The Sagehens won the SCIAC Postseason Tournament as the No. 2 seed with three straight wins to improve to 32–11 overall and earned the automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.
Isaac Kim PO’24 was named SCIAC Tournament MVP after going 10–13 during the tournament with 11 RBIs and six runs scored.
The Sagehens were led by Jack Gold PO’25, who went 3–5 with five RBI and a run scored. JC Ng PO’25 also went 3–5 with three RBI and a run scored, while Kim also had a multi-hit game going 2–3 with an RBI and a run scored. Pitzer’s Nate Jakobs ’24, William Kinney ’26, Greg Pierantoni PO’27, Jimmy Legg PO’25, and Jackson Fleming PO’24 all had one-hit performances for the Sagehens as well.
The Sagehens took the lead early with three runs in the bottom of the first. The Sagehens loaded the bases, and Jakobs brought in the first run with a hit by pitch, and then Gold doubled to extend the lead to 3–0.
CMS came back to tie at 3–3 after four innings. The Stags went on to take the lead with another run in the top of the fifth, but the Sagehens came roaring back in their next at-bats. Gold hit a three-run blast to right field, and Ng doubled later in the inning to put the Sagehens back on top 8–4.
CMS tried to cut back into the lead, but the Sagehens responded with RBIs from Ng, Kim, and Pierantoni to push the lead to 11–5.
The Stags got a run in the top of the eighth, but the Sagehen bullpen slammed the door shut to claim their first SCIAC Tournament Championship in program history.
