We Belong Together: Staying Connected Through Institutional Harm

Please join us on March 24th, from 2-5pm for “We Belong Together: Moving Through Institutional Harm,” hosted in the Broad Performance Space.
All are welcome. Please register in advance, here! (bit.ly/webelong2gether)
For more information, contact Professor Barbara Junisbai: [email protected].
Come learn, practice, and be together, while we collectively explore barriers to transformative, liberatory change and work through how to build solidarity with one another  in the face of structural violence. Facilitated in collaboration with the Philly-based worker-owned co-op, Accountable History Network, this workshop will include nourishment and breaks, with plenty of opportunities for connection, reflection, and rest along the way.
This workshop was made possible by funding from the Claremont Colleges’ Center for Teaching and Learning and the Teaching and Learning Committee at Pitzer College. Professor Barbara will be teaching a new, student-centered, collaborative course in the fall on building a Community of Practice, and this workshop is a bite-sized introduction that will help inform the course’s framework.

Distilling Your Message: Communicating Your Research to a General Audience

In this day and age, you have to do more than conduct incredible research, you have to be able to communicate it. This interactive workshop will show you how to take complex ideas and organize them into an accessible format so anyone can engage with your work, no matter their background. Come learn how to distill your research into a clear and engaging message. Bri McWhorter will lead a workshop on communicating your research to a general audience. Designed for non-actors, participants will learn the techniques actors use to craft dynamic and compelling presentations. This workshop will be open to the Pitzer community but is especially geared towards students who are conducting research and will be presenting their senior thesis at the Academic Festival, academic conferences, and other venues.

Speaker Bio: Bri McWhorter is the Founder and CEO of Activate to Captivate, where she teaches communication techniques from an actor’s point of view.
