Law Career Trek – U.S. Bankruptcy Court

Are you interested in a Career in Law? If so, through a Pitzer parent connection, we have received an invitation to visit the largest federal district Bankruptcy Court in the U.S., the Central District of California in downtown Los Angeles. This bankruptcy court holds court not only in Los Angeles but Riverside, Santa Ana, Santa Barbara, and the San Fernando Valley.  Students will meet with a prominent judge in the court to hear about their career path and find out how to apply for opportunities within the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.

What do federal U.S. Bankruptcy Courts do? According to their website, “federal courts have exclusive jurisdiction over bankruptcy cases involving personal, business, or farm bankruptcy. This means a bankruptcy case cannot be filed in state court. Through the bankruptcy process, individuals or businesses that can no longer pay their creditors may either seek a court-supervised liquidation of their assets, or they may reorganize their financial affairs and work out a plan to pay their debts.
