CLAREMONT, Calif. - Pitzer College’s Board of Trustees unanimously has approved a new strategic vision that will guide the College’s priorities and investments over the next five to ten years. The vision, which was shaped through a year-long, community-wide process, reaffirms Pitzer’s commitment to bold, academically rigorous learning and positions the College to lead in environmental sustainability, justice education, and student success.

The vision centers on preparing every Pitzer student to think critically, act courageously, and engage compassionately, reflecting the community’s shared belief that Pitzer must continue to educate graduates equipped for a rapidly changing world.
President Strom Thacker emphasized that the vision builds on Pitzer’s longstanding identity as a mission-driven, liberal arts institution.

“This vision honors the values that have always defined Pitzer while embracing new ways of learning, leading, and creating change,” Thacker said. “It reminds us to reimagine what rigorous, justice-centered, sustainability-driven education can be in a rapidly evolving world. I’m profoundly grateful to the students, faculty, staff, alumni, and trustees who contributed their insight and imagination.”

Pitzer Trustee Chair Michele Siqueiros ’95 praised the depth and inclusiveness of the process that led to the vision.
“This vision grew out of thoughtful collaboration among President Thacker, his senior leadership team, the trustees, and the wider Pitzer community,” said  Siqueiros. “As trustees, we stand fully behind this shared roadmap, which strengthens Pitzer academically, operationally, and financially while remaining true to the values that make this community remarkable.”

The strategic vision is organized around four central goals:

  • Catalyze bold ideas and fearless learning
    • Pitzer leads in rigorous, interdisciplinary, experiential, and community-engaged learning through innovative teaching, scholarship, and service to society, spearheading social justice education and the sustainability revolution, and preparing students to ethically engage evidence, technology, and intercultural perspectives as stewards of the greater good.
  • Expand access and empower every student to thrive
    • Pitzer makes its education accessible to a wider range of highly qualified students and ensures that every student has the resources, support, and integrated post-graduation planning to succeed, lead an intentional, values-driven life, and make a positive impact on the world.
  • Build an inclusive, resilient, and engaged community
    • Pitzer develops an inclusive culture that cultivates deep engagement across differences, lasting connections and traditions, and inviting spaces to inspire collaboration and dialogue, deepen belonging, and create a lifelong network linking students, faculty, staff, alumni, and supporters.
  • Grow resources and institutional capacity
    • Pitzer fuels its mission, values, strategic vision, and long-term vitality by mobilizing its global network, elevating fundraising and the endowment, broadening access for students, and optimizing operations for lasting impact.

With the Board’s approval at the October 2025 meeting, Pitzer began the next phase: building out measurable initiatives and implementation plans for the next three to five years. This includes commitments to expanding experiential learning, strengthening support for students from all backgrounds, enhancing collaborative campus spaces, and growing the resources needed to carry the vision forward.

“I’m energized by what lies ahead,” said President Thacker. “This vision belongs to all of us, and together we will ensure Pitzer continues to educate the visionaries who will create a better tomorrow.”
