Cleaning & Storage Guidelines

To avoid a fine, please follow these protocols.

At the end of the academic year, all residence hall rooms and shared spaces will be inspected after students move out. Students may be assessed charges for any damages, excessive cleaning, missing furniture, or failure to complete the required move-out procedures. Taking the time to properly clean and prepare your space can help you avoid unnecessary charges. Before checking out, please complete the following:

  • Bathroom: Remove all personal belongings and decorations from the shower, toilet, sink, countertops, shelves, and floor areas; clear shower drains; clean the toilet, shower walls and floors, sinks, counters, and mirrors; wipe down shelves; and close all bathroom windows.
  • Room Cleaning: Vacuum carpets, sweep and mop floors, empty and wipe down desks, hutches, drawers, and shelves, and wipe down walls as needed.
  • Walls & Decorations: Remove all decorations, adhesives, tape, command strips, and any other items attached to walls or furniture.
  • Trash Removal: Remove all trash and personal belongings from your room and dispose of them in designated dumpsters or trash rooms. Do not leave trash in hallways.
  • Beds: Reassemble bed frames to their original configuration before checkout. If your bed has been lofted, DO NOT attempt to un-loft your bed.
  • Green Boxes: Return all reusable dining green boxes to the dining hall prior to departure.
  • Furniture: Ensure all assigned furniture remains in the room and is in good condition. Students may be charged for any missing or damaged furniture.
  • No bikes may be left on campus over the summer. All remaining bikes will be cut and confiscated.
  • Bikes must be stored in your room over winter break.
