Transfer Applicants

Choose from one of two prompts and write a maximum of 650 words:

At Pitzer, five core values distinguish our approach to education: social responsibility, intercultural understanding, interdisciplinary learning, student engagement, and environmental sustainability. As agents of change, our students utilize these values to create solutions to our world’s challenges. Please answer only one of the following prompts:

• Reflecting on your involvement throughout high school or within the community, how have you engaged with one of Pitzer’s core values?
• Describe what you are looking for from your college experience and why Pitzer would be a good fit for you.

Pitzer also offers an optional essay (up to 250 words) that you can answer via the Common Application:

• As a mission-driven institution, we value and celebrate the synergy created by our differences and similarities. We welcome you to write about distinctive aspects of your background, identity, or personal interests that you would bring to Pitzer, and how you plan to engage in our community.

• We require at least one recommendation from a college professor (or teaching assistant).
• Recommendations should be submitted through the Common Application website.
• Your recommender can also email/mail their recommendation to applicant@pitzer.edu.
• Recommenders must send their letters directly to the Office of Admission.

College Report

• Download the College Report [PDF] or from the Common Application website.
• The report should be completed by a college official with access to your academic and disciplinary records. Examples include a dean, adviser, or registrar. 
• Not currently enrolled? The report should come from your most recently attended college or university.
• The college official should email the report to applicant@pitzer.edu. You may also send it to the Office of Admission in a sealed envelope.

Official Transcripts

All colleges/universities you have attended must send your official transcript. They can send it to the Office of Admission by mail or to applicant@pitzer.edu. 

Request your transcript at least four weeks in advance of the admission deadline.

Submit your high school transcript if you have finished less than 32 semester credits or 48 quarter credits by the admission deadline. You may email your official high school transcript to applicant@pitzer.edu. 

Academic Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• One or more completed semesters or two or more completed quarters of college credit by application deadline
• We also recommend completing first-year writing courses required at your current institution

Other Recommendations

We recommend that students transferring before getting an associate’s degree take many subjects. This includes the humanities, math, social science, and science. We will pay special attention to your work in college courses.

California community college students should do courses in the Inter-Segmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC). Find out more about IGETC from the counseling center at your community college. The Pitzer Office of Admission can assist in planning.
