Undefeated Women’s Lacrosse Sagehens Top Athenas in SCIAC Championship

Claremont, Calif. (May 9, 2022)—The Pomona-Pitzer Lacrosse team defeated the CMS Athenas 15-11 in the 2022 SCIAC Postseason Tournament Championship in a Sixth Street Rivalry edition, claiming the title with their 17th-straight victory.

Pitzer’s Sydney Landauer ’25 led the charge for the Sagehens, ending the night with four goals and three assists, while Fiona Lewis PO’25 netted a hat trick with Shoshi Henderson PO’25 dishing out three assists. Hannah Gough PO’25 and Maggie Sweeney PO’22 both recorded two goals on the night, while Pitzer’s Carly Sullivan ’23, Caroline Worthington PO’23, Eloise Cherian PO’23, and Regan Schunk PO’24 all ended the night with one goal. Emily Vomvas PO’22 played all 60 minutes in goal for the Sagehens, making four saves off 15 shots faced.

With the SCIAC Championship on the line, the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens and CMS Athenas met for the third time this season with the Sagehens holding a 2-0 advantage on the season. With the win, the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens keep their undefeated streak alive and advance to the 2022 NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Tournament.
