Our Sagehens kept making news during spring 2021 despite the cancelation of Pomona-Pitzer Athletics for the academic year. Sagehens won awards for character and service, former players returned to the pitch as coaches, and coaches, past and present, went to the Olympics. Blue and Orange Go for Gold

Pomona-Pitzer Water Polo Coach Alex Rodriguez and former Sagehens Basketball Coach—and storied NBA coach—Gregg Popovich were tapped to coach during the Tokyo Olympics. Rodriguez, head coach of Sagehens men’s and women’s water polo, served as the first assistant coach for the US men’s water polo team. “Coach Pop” led the heavily favored US men’s national team in the Olympics.

Pitzer College Class of 2021 graduates Lily and Thyra Herrmann are Sagehen Lacrosse teammates and twin sisters whose contributions on and off the field were recently recognized by two intercollegiate athletic organizations. Lily won the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Community Awareness Award on June 14; Thyra earned the 2021 SCIAC Character Award in May. Alumnus from Saghen Soccer Family Rejoins Team as Assistant Coach

Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Soccer program announced that Pitzer alumnus and former Sagehen Men’s Soccer player Taylor Reifert ’19 was rejoining the team as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2021 season. Reifert is part of a Pomona-Pitzer family dynasty. His sister Shay Reifert ’23 is a center midfielder on PP Women’s Soccer Team, and his sister Marley Reifert ’17 also played on Women’s Soccer team during her time at Pitzer.
