Roberts East Campus Development & Road Closure
What
CMC will be completing a comprehensive street improvement project for Claremont Boulevard, including:
- The installation of a traffic signal and crosswalks at Ninth Street
- Protected bike lanes
- Underground utilities.
This major construction project will necessarily result in disruptions throughout the remainder of the academic year, particularly with respect to construction noise, road closures, and adjusted traffic patterns. Some pedestrian and vehicle access to the Pitzer campus will be affected by these disruptions.
When
November 1, 2025 through August 2026.
Where
With respect to traffic circulation, beginning November 1 through August 2026:
- Claremont Boulevard between Sixth Street/Arrow Route and just south of Ninth Street will be closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
- Claremont Boulevard will be open to local traffic (i.e., traffic associated with The Claremont Colleges) between Foothill Boulevard and Ninth Street. Pitzer faculty, staff, students, and other visitors will still be able to use this section of Claremont Boulevard to enter and depart campus.
View the Road Closure & Detour Map - Signage will be posted throughout the area to guide vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic along these routes.
- Please be careful of pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular traffic in these areas and allow yourself extra time to circulate as needed.
Construction Noise
- Construction activity will be taking place between 7:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. from Monday through Friday.
- Whenever possible, crews will delay their heavy equipment usage until 8:00 a.m. and they will prioritize a quieter construction period during final exams, December 8 through 12.
We know this may present some potential inconveniences to the Pitzer community during this year of intense construction, and we very much appreciate your continuous spirit of cooperation. We appreciate your patience and cooperation.
