Interested in Volunteering?

Send us an email at CareerServices@pitzer.edu and let us know how you would like to help us.

Career Services needs your help! During the career planning process, Pitzer students benefit greatly from interactions with Pitzer alumni, families, employers, or other friends of the College. These interactions can help students:

  • Learn about and understand a variety of career paths
  • Find out what it takes to be successful in a specific profession
  • Practice networking and relationship-building skills
  • Become more polished and professional
  • Develop a post-graduation career plan

Volunteer Opportunities

There are several ways to volunteer with the Pitzer Career Services office. These include:

Pitzer Winter Break Shadowing Program Host

  • Open to Pitzer alumni and families
  • Host one or more Pitzer students at your workplace for 1 to 4 days (“take a student to work”) during Winter Break (early January each year)
  • Allow students to shadow you and/or your colleagues to get an in-depth look at what it takes to be successful in a specific profession
  • Students may attend meetings with you, meet with staff from around your organization, complete a brief assigned exercise or project (for learning purposes only), present a summary of what they learned to you and/or your colleagues, work with you on improving their resume writing or interviewing skills

Career Trek Host

  • Open to anyone willing to host Pitzer students
  • Host a group of Pitzer students (usually between 6 and 15 students) at your organization on a day of the week that works for you and our students (usually between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., although times can be flexible)
  • Enable students to learn about various aspects of working at your organization or in your profession (this may include presentations from staff in different departments, Q&A sessions with staff, a managed case study, a site tour or a “behind the scenes” tour)
  • Possibly provide a working lunch or space for students to eat a “brown bag” lunch

Pitzer Alumni Speaker or Panelist

  • Open to Pitzer alumni
  • Talk about your profession, field questions from Pitzer students in an interactive setting, and share how your Pitzer experience has influenced your career path
  • Usually a 1-hour commitment, often during an evening
  • Speaker events may happen on campus or via Zoom
  • Be prepared to answer probing questions and be honest about the good things, and not-so-good things about your profession

If you are interested in any of these volunteer opportunities, please contact Director of Career Services, Brad Tharpe, at brad_tharpe@pitzer.edu. Thank you!
