Student Opportunities
Pitzer College Art Galleries offers opportunities to Pitzer students interested in gaining experience in the museum field through student employment positions within the Galleries, as well as the Godsill Burns Apprenticeship, an internship program with non-profit arts organizations in greater Los Angeles.
Gallery Fellows
Gallery Fellows work as a collective to imagine, develop, and implement creative initiatives that engage the Claremont Colleges community with the Art Galleries to widen participation and increase access across diverse groups and interests. Selection of Fellows for the fall semester takes place in spring.
Godsill Burns Apprenticeship Award
The Benjamin Godsill ’00 and Anna Burns Student Apprenticeship Award for First Generation and Students of Color provides first-generation and students of color opportunities for in-depth curatorial experience and a bridge to long-term museum careers.
Student Assistant Roles
Student employment roles in the Galleries offer Pitzer students opportunities to work in communications, installation, and visitor services.
Communications Assistant
The Communications Assistant works with staff to update the Galleries’ website, produce newsletters for external and internal audiences, and design graphic assets.
Galleries Assistant
The Galleries Assistants provide visitor services by opening and closing the galleries on Saturdays and for special events, as well as working with staff to assist with other administrative tasks.
Preparator Assistant
The Preparator Assistants work with staff in refurbishing the galleries for exhibitions, handling and installing artworks, packing and crating art works for shipping, completing condition reports, and assisting with the permanent collection.
Hours and Duration
- All student roles are temporary, part-time opportunities.
- Flexible schedule. 10 hours + per week, Tuesday through Friday plus some weekend and evening special events.
- Student employment roles last January through May and September through December.
How to Apply
Available student assistant roles are posted on Handshake in August for the fall semester and in December for the spring semester. Fellows applications are publicized in the spring semester, and Godsill Burns applications are publicized in the fall semester.
