Dear Members of the Pitzer Community,

I’m writing to share news of an important step forward in our work to further align Pitzer’s operations with our values.

Just over a year ago, during my open office hours of April 14, 2025, a small group of Pitzer students came forward with a proposal to accelerate our transition to clean electricity. After a productive conversation there, together we identified some follow-up steps, and conversations continued between students, staff and College leadership, and across the Claremont Colleges Consortium.

Fast forward almost exactly a year, and the consortium is finalizing an agreement to source all of its electricity from one hundred percent renewable sources, a change that will result in a dramatic reduction in our carbon emissions of over thirty percent.
You can read more here.

I am grateful to those students who first brought the idea to us during that office hour, to those on our team who worked hand in hand with them to bring this to fruition, and to our partners across the consortium.

Thank you to everyone who helped turn conversation into action.

Provida Futuri,

Strom C. Thacker
President
