New Endowed Professorships
Congratulations from the Dean of Faculty to the new endowed professorships!

Dear Colleagues:
It is my great pleasure to announce Pitzer’s two newest endowed professors, both of whom will receive annual supplemental funding to support their research and teaching activities and professional development. When you are able, I hope that you will take the opportunity to congratulate the recipients on being selected for these professorships.
Carina Johnson has been selected as the Peter and Gloria Gold Endowed Professor. This professorship, designated for a full professor with at least 15 years of full-time experience at Pitzer, recognizes contributions to the College across teaching and advising, scholarly work, and service activities.
Claudia Strauss has been selected as the Jean M. Pitzer Endowed Professor. This professorship, established in 1987, recognizes academic excellence and is designated for a faculty member with demonstrable interests in the general areas of archeology or anthropology.
There were many worthy nominations for both professorships, and the APT subcommittees that reviewed nominations were impressed with the credentials of all of the nominees. I thank the members of APT for their efforts in reviewing materials, deliberating, and selecting the recipients, and I also thank Associate Dean Ahmed Alwishah and Assistant Dean Shelva Paulse for supporting the nomination and review process.
Finally, I thank all of the nominees for their interest in these professorships. I wish that we had more endowed professorships to be able recognize all of the outstanding talent and contributions of our faculty. For now, though, I offer my heartfelt congratulations to Carina and Claudia!
