Call for Field Groups to Provide Curriculum for Pathway to BA Program 2026-2027
The Dean of Faculty shares a call for curriculum in the Pathway to BA Program for the 2026-2027 academic year.

APC invites Field Groups to self-nominate to provide the curriculum for a new cohort of roughly 10 students in the Pathway to BA Program at the CRC Prison in Norco for the 2026-2027 academic year.
Field Group responsibilities include:
Assist Admissions with reviewing applications for this degree completion program in fall 2025
Plan and provide courses so that Inside students can complete a Pitzer degree and Field Group major in the span of two summers and two semesters beginning in summer 2026
o Admitted students typically have completed an Associates degree for transfer and some other Pitzer Inside/Out classes
o Admitted students in the next cohort will formally start the program in summer 2026 and complete all major requirements by the end of summer 2027
o The Field Group should offer sufficient and required courses in Inside/Out format so that admitted students can successfully complete their Pitzer degree and major
o Field Groups should plan to offer no more than two Inside-Only classes for the cohort to facilitate degree progress
o Field Groups are responsible for providing Academic Advising to students in the program cohort
Work with the Senior Director of Justice Education, Romarilyn Ralston, in planning, scheduling, and offering courses
Designate at least one faculty member in the Field Group to serve as the academic advisor for the cohort of admitted students and as liaison to the Justice Education initiative; up to $20,000 is available to cover these responsibilities.
Because a substantial number of Field Group classes must be offered in the Inside/Out format (taught at the CRC and with roughly 10 Claremont Colleges students enrolled), the Field Group will be provided with the equivalent of one full-time replacement faculty member for the 2026-2027 academic year. Field Groups also will have access to $10,000 to facilitate curricular planning and course delivery.
Field Groups should send their expression of interest in serving as the major for the 2026-2027 cohort (beginning in summer 2026) to APC c/o Dean_Faculty@pitzer.edu no later than noon, Monday, April 28, 2025.
Please include the following:
1. Field Group name and major (specify if a specific track within the major is being proposed)
2. Affirmation that the Field Group has discussed its capacity and is confident it will be able to offer sufficient courses in the noted timeframe
3. A designated Field Group faculty point of contact to whom APC can direct questions or seek clarification.
Please contact APC Chair Michelle Berenfeld (michelle_berenfeld@pitzer.edu) or Dean Omoto (dean_faculty@pitzer.edu) with any questions. Nigel Boyle (nigel_boyle@pitzer.edu) can also answer questions about the program.
