Annual Native Indigenous Initiatives Summit

Guests at the Annual NII Summit

This is not your average summit! As Native and Indigenous people, our methods of sharing knowledge with one another have survived all attempts of erasure. Knowledge is not just something we store in books or institutions- it is alive, passed through breath, movement, and memory. It lives in our songs, in the way our elders speak, and in the stories passed through generations. While institutions like universities often reinforce colonial hierarchies, our communities have long embraced horizontal, intergenerational ways of learning. We recognize that each of us has something to teach and something to learn. Whether through oral traditions, art, music, dance, or ceremony, our knowledge-sharing practices deserve to be honored and uplifted.

Building community is an essential part of learning. The event includes interactive workshops, engaging panel discussions, collaborative talking circles, and more opportunities to learn from one another and cultivate solidarity and support. This summit is a space where learning is reciprocal, and where we reclaim the ways of knowing that sustained our peoples for millennia.
