The Endowment's Purpose

The purpose of the Pitzer College endowment is to sustain the College financially, both now and in the future.

Endowment Facts

  • The endowment distributes approximately 4% of its value annually as a contribution to the College's annual budget. As the endowment grows in value, so does its annual contribution to the College.
  • The endowment currently contributes about $8 million per year that is applied to all College expenses—everything from financial aid to campus maintenance to faculty and staff compensation.
  • Pitzer's endowment assets come entirely from gifts to the College and investment returns. Funds collected from students and families, such as tuition and fees, support current operations only and do not go into the endowment.

Distributions from the endowment are an important part of the College’s annual budget. We hope to see endowment contributions make up a growing percentage of the College’s total revenue over time, which will enable the College to increase funding for student financial aid and other critical operations.
