Claremont, Calif. (May 18, 2023)—Former Pomona-Pitzer women’s basketball player and 2023 SCIAC Player of the Year Madison Quan ’22 joins head Coach Alaina Woo on the bench for the 2023–24 season.

Quan was a standout student-athlete for the Sagehens from 2018 to 2023, graduating with marks all over the women’s basketball record book. She assisted the program to multiple SCIAC championship appearances including the 2019 tournament championship, and she was part of the first 3 consecutive winning seasons since 2002. She holds the program record for career 3-pointers with 164. She sits 6th on the all-time points list with 1,313, 5th on the all-time assists list with 359, and 2nd on the all-time steals list with 285. She holds the single-game points record with 41, and the single-game steals record with 10. During the 2022–23 season, she became the program’s first 1,000-point scorer since 2017. She was a 3-time first-team all-SCIAC selection and 2-time all-west region selection.

Quan is a first-generation college student who double majored in organizational studies and environmental analysis at Pitzer College before going on to receive her Master of Business Management at Claremont Graduate University.

Off the court, Quan was President of the Pitzer Student Impact Council, the Pitzer Student Senate Athletics Commissioner, the Pomona-Pitzer SAAC Leadership Chair, and a volunteer with Special Olympics basketball. She is currently coaching for the second consecutive year at the annual North/South high school basketball tournament in Southern California.

Quan will also serve as a post-baccalaureate design associate at The Claremont Colleges’ Rick and Susan Sontag Center for Collaborative Creativity (the Hive).

“I am so excited to welcome Madison back to our program yet again,” said head coach Alaina Woo. “Madison chose our program first as 17-year-old, again to play a 5th year in graduate school, and now for a third time in joining us on the sidelines as an assistant coach. Her basketball resume speaks for itself—she is a competitor who knows how to read the game of basketball. What cannot be seen in the awards and records is Madison’s loyalty, work ethic, and commitment to growth. Welcome back to Pomona-Pitzer, Coach Q!”
