Lecture: "Your Despair is not a Disorder: Youth Mental Health and Racial Justice in a Time of Crisis"

-

Broad Performance Space, Broad Center

College students today are living through crisis after crisis: campus protests, immigration raids, democracy under threat, climate collapse, and escalating violence. What if despair in this context is not illness, but proof that young people see the world clearly. Drawing from my own story of breakdown and renewal, this keynote reframes despair as a catalyst for awakening and a source of power in building a more just world.

Presenter: Rupi Legha, MD
Dr. Legha is a double board-certified child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist, Fulbright Scholar, and honors graduate of Harvard Medical School. Her publications shake up healthcare by confronting colonization and slavery in ways it has long avoided. Her papers include:

  • "There Are No Bad Kids: An Antiracist Approach to ODD"
  • "Teaching the Legacy of Slavery in American Psychiatry"
  • "No More Building Resiliency: Confronting Psychology's White Supremacist Past to Reimagine Its Antiracist Future."
