Explore the history behind Pitzer’s iconic modernist architecture.
Founded in 1964, Pitzer College was built on a strong foundation of modernism. Its earliest buildings brought together the founding president’s and faculty's forward-looking ideals with innovative modernist design. Pitzer’s architectural vision—including the Master Plan; Scott Hall, the original administrative building; the Sanborn, Holden, and Mead residence halls; and the Fletcher, Bernard, and Avery academic buildings—was developed by the local firm Criley + McDowell.
