"Haiti and the Dominican Republic" will offer a critical reexamination of the historical and contemporary dynamics between the two countries.
Challenging dominant narratives rooted in colonial frameworks, Professor Arguello will explore how race, power, and imperial legacies have shaped perceptions and policies on both sides of the island.
Through a decolonial lens, Professor Arguello will highlight the importance of centering Haitian and Dominican voices, histories, and solidarities that are often overlooked in mainstream discourse.
This talk will encourage students to question inherited biases and consider more nuanced, interconnected approaches to understanding the region's complex past and present.
