MCSI Lecture, Wounded Spaces and Garbage Graveyards: Wastescapes Defined

Martin Melosi Lecture as part of the MCSI Speaker Series "Talking Trash."
Lecture Description: Wastescapes are landscapes on the margins, wounded spaces, garbage graveyards, or derelict sites. “Disposal…is not primarily about waste but about placing. It is as much a spatial as a temporal category” (Kevin Hetherington 2004, 159). Whether we are talking about landfills, brownfields, various toxic sites, or nuclear wastelands, human intent most often determines what and where waste will impact their environment.
