Claremont, Calif. (November 7, 2011) — The Men’s Water Polo team finished in a tie for first place in the SCIAC at 6-1, following an 8-2 win over Cal Lutheran on Saturday. Jason Cox ’13 led the way for the Sagehens by reaching the 50-goal mark for the year on Saturday, after also contributing what turned out to be the game-winner in the final minutes of an 11-10 win over Redlands on Wednesday. Cox will lead Pitzer-Pomona Men’s Water Polo into the SCIAC Tournament this weekend, opening up with a quarterfinal game against Whittier on Friday at La Verne.
Kenzie Aries ’12 ended her Pitzer-Pomona Volleyball career ranked second on the program’s career list for assists with 2,760. Ellen Yamasaki ’15 finished off her freshman season with a team-high 230 kills, putting her on pace to challenge for the 1,000-kill mark in her career, while Sophie Tweed-Simmons ’13 added 168 kills to rank third on the Sagehens.
Erik Munzer ’13 and Rachel Eckerlin ’12 both captained their soccer teams to the SCIAC Tournament this fall, with the Sagehen Men’s Soccer team falling in the semifinal to Redlands on Wednesday, and the Sagehen Women’s Soccer team dropping a semifinal at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. It was the first appearance in the SCIAC Tournament for the Pitzer-Pomona Women’s Soccer team since 2006. Traci Lopez ’12 had 11 goals this fall, which ranked first on the team and tied for second in the SCIAC. Lawrence McDonald ’15 led the Sagehens Men’s Soccer team with five goals.
Justin Meng ’13 had 12 tackles for the Pitzer-Pomona Football team in its loss to La Verne on Saturday. Zack Tannous ’12 and Tim Stapenhorst ’12 were both honored for Senior Day prior to the game, and helped pave the way for Luke Sweeney PO’13 to set the single-season Sagehen rushing record with 1,277 yards with his 162 against La Verne.
