Pitzer College Alums and Board Trustee Honored by KCET and Union Bank as 2011 Local Heroes

Claremont, Calif. (September 30, 2011) — Pitzer College alums Ruett Foster ’81, Rhonda Foster ’82 and Trustee Charlie Woo were named 2011 Local Heroes by KCET and Union Bank. They will be honored during an awards ceremony on October 18, 2011 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, CA.

The Fosters are co-founders of Evan Leigh Foster Foundation, a facility that provides care and services for any and all children who perpetrated crimes against society as a result of being separated or estranged from their families. The couple has dedicated their lives to helping these children reconcile not only with their families but also with their communities as a whole.

As part of KCET’s ongoing commitment to diversity, the station created annual Hero of the Year Awards in celebration of national commemorative heritage months. This initiative recognizes local heroes — activists, educators, community leaders and visionaries doing the critical work that many times goes unrecognized. It salutes the accomplishments and services of men and women who are making a significant impact in Southern California communities.
