Pitzer College Alum Receives Kiva Fellowship

Claremont, Calif. (September 14, 2010) — Pitzer College congratulates Charlie Wood ’07, recipient of a 2010 Kiva Fellowship to Kyrgyzstan to work with a microfinance organization on media, program deliverables and governance.

“Kiva is one of the most prescient examples of intelligent motivated young professionals applying their training and acumen to a conscious based project while utilizing cutting edge technology,” said Wood. “With all the examples of globalization’s negative effects, organizations like Kiva provide a shining light.”

Woods majored double majored in biology and sociology while at Pitzer College and plans to enter law school to pursue public interest law after his fellowship.

The Kiva Fellows Program offers individuals an opportunity to travel abroad and witness firsthand the impact and realities of microfinance, by working directly with a host microfinance institution. The Kiva Fellow is an unpaid, volunteer based position designed to increase Kiva’s impact and to offer participants a unique insider experience.
