Decolonize Your Writing

When: Friday, April 7th from 12-1 pm

Where: The Pitzer Writing Center

Join author Y-Binh Nguyen for a discussion on how to decenter colonial narratives from your writing as a means forming writing styles and strategies that exist outside of traditional writing methods. We will be learning how reframing our thinking around writing can enable us to become more connected to our writing process and help integrate intentionality into all types of writing.

About Y-Bình Nguyễn (they/she): I am a communal mythology storyteller, multi-media artist, budding agriculturalist, and avid eyeliner enthusiast. My writing focuses on eco-resistance sci-fi, transgenerational trauma & healing, critical compassion, queer coming of age love stories, diaspora hustles and bustles, and visionary fiction by way of recognizing the power of making space for past, present, and future ancestors to heal and build new worlds. I like to find the heroes in the esoteric aunties, shy siblings, and liberated queer cousins–while unearthing stories of resistance and solidarity.

Coffee Cart

Tuesday, February 21st from 9am-10am

Academic Quad (Outside the Pit Stop and Scott Hall)

Stop by for a free cp of coffee (or tea!) and learn about how the Writing Center is hiring!

The mission of the Coffee Cart:  To facilitate faculty/staff/student social and intellectual interaction by creating a public gathering space.

The Coffee Cart is a place where all members of the Pitzer Community can meet for a few minutes during the academic year to share a cup of coffee/tea and a treat.   Many thanks to Bon Appetit for their time setting up coffee service and for donating coffee several times in the past!   Thank you to the Campus Life Committee which allocated funds to provide coffee service monthly for 2019-20 Coffee Cart events!

•  The Coffee Cart Work Group originated, with the support of senior management, as a result of the College’s interest in “reinventing our residential community through facilitating faculty/staff/student social and intellectual interactions,” as stated in the April 1999 Comprehensive Planning Document.

•  Coffee Cart operated for ten years, from 1999 through 2009.  After many requests and support from Staff Council, Coffee Cart was revived, on a monthly basis beginning the 2014-15 year.  We have a small work group to oversee the Coffee Cart and coordinate hosts.
